About Rachel Weber
Like snipping a lock of hair, paper cutting is final. Brush strokes can be altered and pencil marks erased, but cutting paper permanently transforms the medium. Artistically, Rachel Weber finds this process calming and zen-like- a stark contrast to her earlier days as a frustrated, revision-prone painter. That first, memorable cut was one of her most satisfying creative moments, and her penchant for paper began.
Rachel's current focus is papercut shadowboxes. The illusion of depth and the way the medium transforms the passive viewer into an active voyeur appeal to her artistic sensibilities. Much of her concentration deals with mythology and legendary characters, and scenes that evoke a psychological, darker mood.
Rachel Weber lives and works in Montclair, NJ. She also shows work at The Papercuts and Gluesticks Gallery in Rocky River, OH.
